THE BEGINNING
My name is Socorro Meredith, and i am from Mexico, i have been working in UVRMC for the last 10 years, everything in my life have been a challenge.. since I got married 31 years ago I had 2 beautiful kids , which they are my inspiration, I have worked really hard to help my son, because he has a disability.. well he is not kid anymore he is almost 30 years old.
I think there has been quite a few challenges in my life .. specially in the last 10 years, I had a set life in my country and I did something completely different to what I do now.
Just think.. to move to other country when you don't know the language, you don't understand the culture and I had to acquire a completely different set of skills to be able to perform my job, etc.. that was one of my biggest challenge. I am a very determined person, I do not like to give up. even when facing the decision we made to move to this country and having to learn a new language and understand the culture.
I am doing this challenge because for the last 10 years and more I have always focused on doing everything necessary to help my husband and my family have a better life, we believe we have worked really hard to build our life here and we are really proud of it. however I realized I had forgotten to take care of my own body.
I completely forgot to think on what I eat and why I'm eating it, so I have taken this first step into taking care of ME. I think this is something that not only will affect me but also my family, I want to make sure I can be around for a long time. It was about time I took this decision and I'm really happy Im doing it.
